HE WHO FIGHTS AND RUNS AWAY,

May live to run another day.
Sol Schindler on the (missing) things that won wars and secured peace.

  1. At the end of WWII my Dad's regiment was in Oldenburg, northern Germany. There was a curfew that was strictly enforced. If you were a civilian on the streets during night time, you were shot. Period. Fast forward to the images of looting from public buildings and museums that took place in Baghdad.

  2. US losses since Korea are preordained. The goals and objectives in Viet Nam, which were never about absolute victory, constantly changed depending on how Johnson or Nixon viewed the political situation. Ho Chi Minh was only interested in one thing, ultimate and absolute victory. With the possible exception of Grenada, this has been the history of every major US military action since Viet Nam. Half hearted efforts to achieve half assed goals.
