BIG OIL OKAY WITH CARBON TAX

Imperial Oil CEO Rich Kruger and Michael Crothers, head of Shell Canada, extolled the virtues of a carbon tax to curb greenhouse gas emissions — days before Ottawa announced it will impose a minimum carbon price across the country.
While many small and mid-sized independent petroleum producers are upset by the decision and its potential impact on the industry’s competitiveness, many larger players are on board with the concept of a tax.
Just don’t expect everyone in the sector to hold hands with the feds and province, sing Kumbaya and head off into the sunset.
The industry is not a monolith and the carbon tax is a dividing line.
