MONSEF REJECTS FINDINGS OF ELECTORAL REFORM GROUP

The Electoral Reform Committee travelled across the country, holding nearly 50 meetings, heard from hundreds of witnesses and, on Thursday, filed its report recommending that the government hold a national referendum in which we’d all be asked if we wanted to keep the same system for electing MPs or move to a new system using a proportional representation system. ERRE’s report and recommendation is more than 400 pages long. They did a lot of work.
But when they gave it to Maryam Monsef, the Minister for Democratic Institutions, she said it wasn’t good enough! She said the committee did not do what it had been asked to do.
