SNC-Lavalin has lost billions of dollars because of corruption charges and could lose more business in future, but one expert says the projects it has underway today are not at risk.
SNC-Lavalin president and chief executive Neil Bruce chief said in December that the bribery charges have probably cost SNC-Lavalin more than $5 billion in lost revenue and continue to damage its reputation internationally.
SNC-Lavalin is Canada’s biggest engineering firm, with 50,000 employees and a long list of past and present big projects. In addition to the Confederation Line of Ottawa’s LRT, the company is building the light rail line under Eglinton Avenue in Toronto. It is a part owner of Highway 407 through the Toronto region. It built the Manic-5 hydroelectric dam in Quebec, and it built the Canada Line, a rapid transit line in Vancouver.
