Former cabinet ministers Jody Wilson-Raybould and Jane Philpott said they had no regrets about standing up to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau even though it may mean the end of their political careers. In a direct rebuke to Trudeau, Wilson-Raybould said it was “unconscionable” to try to interfere in a criminal prosecution.
On Tuesday, as he announced he was kicking both women out of the Liberal caucus, Trudeau said it was “unconscionable” for the former attorney general to tape record a conversation she had with the clerk of the Privy Council, Michael Wernick.
On Wednesday, she hit back.
“Talking about unconscionable, it’s unconscionable to tread over the independence of the prosecutor,” said Wilson-Raybould. “It is unconscionable not to uphold the rule of law, and I have always maintained that stance.”
