Before publicly acknowledging COVID-19 was capable of human transmission, China secretly launched a global plan to buy up personal protection equipment, contributing to world-wide shortages of the desperately needed pandemic supplies, according to an investigation by Global News.
“We found essentially a global covert operation in which China moved early to secure personal protection equipment for its hospitals, while it was covering up the extent of the pandemic risk for the rest of the world,” investigative reporter Sam Cooper says in the report.
Global says Chinese consulates began implementing the plan to hoard pandemic supplies globally around Jan. 14-15. That’s significant, because at that time, China was telling the world COVID-19 did not appear to be capable of human transmission — which the World Health Organization repeated in a Jan. 14 tweet.
