Politicians seem to be largely floundering and making things up as they go along. When restrictions don’t seem to accomplish anything, their response isn’t to stop doing them but to double down.
There are some people who are committed to the narrative that jurisdictions with few widespread societal restrictions – such as Florida and Sweden – have somehow failed. This is false.
Both of those places are actually in the middle of the pack in their respective regions for both cases per capita and deaths per capita. When you factor in that they’ve had much less societal damage, it’s fair to call their approaches successes.
For some reason, Canadian governments refuse to acknowledge the facts that don’t support never-ending lockdowns. This is troubling.
