Well, the problem with setting high standards for children is that the risk of failure is higher. Then the system must find a way to mitigate and/or repair all of that self-esteem damage. Isn't it better then, to simply lower expectations and recognize more basic knowledge as equivalent to higher knowledge, so that all students can feel successful? Sorry, I'm feeling a little weepy and I need a hug.
