Ladies and gentlemen, meet former Olympic kayaker Adam van Koeverden, who last Sunday won the Liberal nomination to run in Milton against a Conservative incumbent who inevitably has the prime minister’s sphincter squeezing tighter every time she stands to address him in Question Period.
The federal election is not until October’s end, of course, but if there is one high-profile member of the Loyal Opposition the Liberals would like to no longer see across from them in the House of Commons, it is Lisa Raitt.
This is who van Koeverden is now assigned to defeat, and if he thought it was a tough slog winning four Olympic medals, including a gold, (the most for any Canadian paddler) as well as two world championships, he hasn’t raced against Raitt, the deputy leader of her party.
