Stamatopoulos said it was 100% understood even before COVID hit these shores that LTC homes would be at high risk.
“But the only concrete action this government has taken is to pass a law that protects themselves and the industry from law suits,” she said.
Stamatopoulos references the two interim reports published by the Long-Term Care COVID-19 Commission looking into the LTC home crisis in Ontario, spelling out what needs to be done: Get an infection control person in each home, up the staffing, increase inspections, make sure someone is in charge and responsible for decision-making.
What’s been done, say the experts, amounts to nothing.
