Conservative Leader Erin O’Toole tried to be everything to everyone and in the process turned off a lot of people within his own party. Now his caucus is revolting against him, with 35 MPs having signed a letter that will trigger a leadership review vote on Wednesday that could oust him. O’Toole only has himself to blame, as his leadership style has been lacklustre and unnecessarily divisive.
Originally, O’Toole was not scheduled for a leadership review until 2023. However, since the Conservatives lost the last election, many of his critics have called for an early review, believing that his pivot to the centre has been ineffectual and has alienated the party’s base.
