But a funny thing happened on the way to the Senate for nominee Andre Pratte: Because he does not own $4000 worth of property in the Senatorial division in Quebec for which he was recommended for appointment, he does not constitutionally qualify to sit as a Senator. The problem is that the application form stipulates that you must confirm you own real property of a net value of $4000 in the province for which you are applying. Quebec Senators have to check off a box identifying that they own that amount of property in the Senatorial division where the vacancy is.
