47 APPLY TO NEW FRENCH UNIVERSITY IN ONTARIO

Ontario’s new French-language university has received only a handful of applications from high school students – including just two who picked the post-secondary institution as their first choice.

Université de l’Ontario français, (UOF) has received 47 applications as of Friday — eight more than the 39 applicants who applied by the Ontario University Application Centre’s (OUAC) Jan. 15 deadline for the province’s high school students. Two students chose UOF as their first choice and three picked it as their second choice, OUAC data shows.

But the Canadian Taxpayers Federation isn’t so enthusiastic, saying in a statement this week each student would cost taxpayers $400,000 this year.
