CATASTROPHIC FAILURES OF RCMP RESPONSE TO NS MASS SHOOTER

There had to be “a lot of catastrophic failures” in containment for the mass killer to get from Wentworth to Truro on the morning of April 19, 2020, Truro's police chief said Monday.
Chief Dave MacNeil told the Mass Casualty commission inquiry that the RCMP did not ask for any assistance from the Truro police and did not inform the municipal police force or the townspeople about details of the 13-hour rampage by gunman Gabriel Wortman that left 22 people dead on April 18 and 19 of that year.
MacNeil testified that the town of Truro could not have been “shut down” on short notice as suggested by the RCMP.
MacNeil testified that the killer was “long gone” from Truro when the lockdown advice was issued and that he had been told in a 10 a.m. call with RCMP Chief Supt. Chris Leather that the killer was likely pinned down by the RCMP in the Wentworth area.
