GRASPING GOVERNMENT TARGETS PROPERTY FOR THIRD TIME

An Ottawa woman is sick of the "state" encroaching on her elderly mother's Stittsville-area property.
Susan Kelly, along with her husband Terry, pleaded with council's built heritage subcommittee Thursday to not slap heritage protection on her mom's stone farmhouse at 5897 Fernbank Rd.

  1. I can't believe that a government can come along and slap a historic label on a private building just because some busybody called. A few years ago some schoolteachers and a few other people with too much time on their hands to think about wasting other peoples money came up with the idea to have the culture ministry or whatever it is called to designate the ugly old Hinton civic building as a Historic Place. Our Mayor got them mad when he said he would rather take a track hoe to the old firetrap.

  2. Over on the left hand side of this Sun News story there is another one about the city involved in keeping a 142 year old barn alive:
"The farm complex is an important visual reminder of the historic character of Goulbourn Twp. and its agricultural history, particularly as suburban development occurs,” planning staff write in a report, which will be considered by the built heritage subcommittee Monday."

It's a f&cking old barn! Tear it down! There are thousands of them in the area. There is nothing that can ever be done or enough money spent to make it "safe" enough for city planners/engineers to allow it to be used by the public.
