Justin Trudeau is now trying to both double down in his diplomatic spat with Saudi Arabia as well as back off.
On Wednesday the PM told reporters that “Canadians have always expected our government to speak strongly, firmly and politely about the need to respect human rights around the world.
But he also took time to acknowledge the Saudis have made human rights strides in recent years, an issue they are sensitive over.
The Saudis effectively severed ties with Canada over a couple of Tweets composed by Foreign Affairs Minister Chrystia Freeland and her department.
