Last week, the Ontario provincial government announced more than 30 proposed changes to legislation related to a dozen government ministries, among them the ministries of health, education, labour, finance, agriculture and rural affairs, environment, northern development and mines and municipal affairs and housing.
The government said the proposed changes are part of an effort to reduce red tape and improve the province’s competitiveness.
Others said the plan could threaten some of the successes citizens and community groups have made in protecting environmental areas and restraining development.
