WEBSITE OF EMPTY PIETY & PETTY DECEIT

Robson:  Do you know what day it is? If not, you can scoot over to the prime minister’s website and discover it’s, say, Cyprus’ 60th Independence Day. And read a bunch of lies about how he cares.

It’s bad enough when politicians churn out empty pieties about Mental Illness Awareness Week or Fire Prevention Week, because there are so many worthy causes and so few weeks (just 52 this year, I’m told). But then there’s the clutter of fake ones like Monte McNaughton’s “Happy Franco-Ontarian Day” tweet, a.k.a., “Nobody Cares But Politicians And Activists Day.” If they even do.

It spins a massive web of petty deceit. On Sept. 30 Trudeau intoned, “It was with great sadness that I learned of the death of …” You have no idea, right? Neither does he. The demise of “His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Emir of Kuwait” caused Trudeau no loss of sleep or appetite.
