So it is 70 years since Elizabeth ascended to the throne. Seven decades since the start of the second Elizabethan age. Three generations of Brits, 14 prime ministers and 14 American presidents have been either ruled or wowed by Elizabeth II, the longest-reigning monarch in British history, and the third longest in world history.
