FREEDOM ON TRIAL, PROFESSOR SUES

A lawsuit by a former Saskatoon surgery professor and health executive will test the limits of a word we’ve heard a lot lately: freedom.
Dr. Francis Christian is suing the Saskatchewan Health Authority and the University of Saskatchewan’s College of Medicine over his dismissal from leadership roles within those organizations after comments he made about the COVID-19 pandemic last year.
In addition to punitive damages, Christian wants the SHA and the college to admit they violated his right to academic freedom, as well as his freedoms of conscience and of thought, belief, opinion and expression as guaranteed by the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
