HEADS UP ALBERTA!

“It’s aggressive,” said Gary Reynolds, an energy industry consultant in Calgary, about the government’s timetable to kick Alberta’s dependence on coal.

  1. The carbon levy here in Alberta was brought in by Red Ed Stelmach. There is an exit clause in the contracts that allows energy companies to pull out of the carbon contracts they signed if levy increases make their businesses more unprofitable.

When the NDP raised the rates last year many companies used that exit loophole and said we are out of here. The NDP had not done their homework and got caught looking stupid with revenue losses of near 2 billion that could only be made up by tax increases on voters. To save face the NDP took the energy companies to court and ae trying to say that the exit clause in the carbon contracts are not legal.
