THE SAGA OF A SCOUNDREL IN JUDICIAL ROBES

It’s been a never-ending judicial crusade waged by former Justice of the Peace Errol Massiah, who was fired back in 2015 for his leering and lecherous behaviour toward women at the Oshawa and Whitby courthouses.

Before being appointed to the bench in 2007, Massiah was an adjudicator with the Ontario Human Rights Commission – so one would have thought he’d know that lewd remarks were not an acceptable “management style.”

But almost immediately, women were complaining about his boorish behaviour.

In 2011, Massiah was found guilty of judicial misconduct by the Justices of the Peace Review Council after six staff members at the Oshawa courthouse complained about his ogling and sexually suggestive behaviour between 2008 and 2010. He insisted they misinterpreted his innocent banter, but he was reprimanded and suspended for 10 days without pay and ordered to take gender-sensitivity training.
