Indeed, as Freeland noted in a single sentence that perfectly sums up the economic philosophy of the Trudeau government, since it came to power: “The risk of providing too little support now outweighs that of providing too much.”
In other words, the way to fight the COVID-19 recession is to spend taxpayers’ money, and the way to recover from the COVID-19 recession is to spend more taxpayers’ money.
What’s happening now is that the pandemic and the recession that accompanied it are pushing Trudeau in exactly the direction he wanted to go long before anyone had ever heard of COVID-19.
That is, racing towards permanent big government, massive deficits, and ruinously expensive programs we couldn’t afford before the pandemic hit.
