GRANT TO WE CHARITY BYPASSED TREASURY BOARD

The waters grow murkier for We Charity’s relationship with the federal government.

MPs have been told a $43.5-million grant for the organization was so quickly approved it was never reviewed by the Treasury Board, according to Blacklock’s Reporter.

The board’s mandate it is to oversee federal spending.

Instead, Youth Minister Bardish Chagger was given the authority to approve the grant, according to Kathleen Owens, assistant comptroller general, who testified at the Commons government operations committee.
