Now Canadians are learning the COVID-19 vaccines they’re going to be inoculated with — which we were told initially were most effective if the second dose followed the first by three to four weeks, and then that it was acceptable up to 42 days apart — may be injected four months apart.
British Columbia has made that decision and Ontario is seeking advice from the National Advisory Committee on Immunization on whether to follow suit.
But the NACI website says, as of March 1, that the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine should, ideally, be administered at 21 days between inoculations, Moderna at 28 days and AstraZeneca at four to 12 weeks, although it allows up to six weeks for Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna, if it’s not possible to administer the second dose in the ideally recommended period.
