“Someone kicked in the front door of my townhouse,” said Gardiner. “It was terrifying. They were three big dudes armed with guns. I knew they were not police because two were in balaclavas and one was wearing a clown mask.”
“I was worried we would all be murdered,” said Gardiner. “I managed to break free of the ties and started to struggle with one who had a shotgun.”
The gun went off and the man was hit. A second struggle ensued and after pushing the barrel from under his chin, he said, it struck the other person in the chest.
He was charged with two counts of second-degree murder despite “being in my own house, the victim of a home invasion and physical assaults on me and my family and with my daughter sleeping in the unit next door. I was just a stay-at-home dad!”
