LOOKS LIKE RAIN...RAISE THE STICKER PRICE

Food price increases blamed on...you guessed it
Increasing weather concerns and import demand -- and, arguably, to a lesser extent, uncertainty associated with the Ukraine situation -- explain most of the price increases,"
Despite the fact that
World Bank economists said prices increased despite bumper crops in 2013 and continued projections of record grain harvests and stronger stocks expected for 2014.

  1. I've said this before...and I'll say it again....the simple science is agriculture is the conversion of fuel into food.
The higher fossil fuels climb food costs will follow.
Then you throw into the mix the ZIRP of various Central Banks for almost a decade now and a massive farm land bubble has been inflated. Land values, long ago, far exceeding the ability of the crop to be grown actually paying for land purchases. How do you cope with that debt?....well at best you just pay the interest and damn the consquences. All policy endorsed by the banking sector and pushed by the money printer Central banks.
To further add to the about to expode farmland bubble is the bio-fuel mandate by government that gasoline has a certain percentage of ethanol...land that hasn't been cleared since the pioneers settled Canada, because it is nothing but muck, swamp or stones now has high-hoes swatting the trees and brush like flies to make room for more corn acreage.
Not to be left out are the various wack-o environmental policies that cripple food production....all to save a fish...or bird....or weed.
But Heh! blame the weather for the sticker shock ! it's a convenient scapegoat for all things.

BTW***The latest and greatest version of swine PED has developed the last couple of day...starting in Indiana....if you haven't been hoarding bacon in the freezer ya might want to start...***

    1. In blaming the weather, what they're really saying is that we have no one to blame but ourselves. Humans (and our destructive, consuming ways) have obviously caused this "climate disruption" (the new term du jour).

And if you're hoarding bacon, avoid Ottawa: it's on sale (yes, sale) for just under $6/lb now!

    2. Ha! I'd avoid Ottawa if bacon was "free". I'd know g-d well that I was paying for it one way or the other.

As far as this food price thing goes, people are getting whacked by their own stupidity and gutlessness. If you cheer for Suzuki and Gore then I hope your food costs triple. And if you don't believe in that BS but haven't the guts to speak out about it you deserve the same.

    3. I guess I'm just as 'heartless' as you tj. I really don't care anymore. I have reconciled myself to the fact that I have the sole responsibility to take care of my family and I am prepared in every sense to do that. BTW, any room for a hydraulics guy around Hinton? ;)
