DENMARK'S BURKA BAN IN EFFECT

Supporters and opponents of a Danish ban on garments covering the face, including Islamic veils such as the niqab or burqa, have clashed in a war of words as the law took effect.
Marcus Knuth of the ruling liberal party, Venstre, said the clothes worn by some conservative Muslim women was “strongly oppressive”.
Sasha Andersen of the Party Rebels activist group, has planned a demonstration for Wednesday against what it called a “discriminatory” measure against a minority group. Groups that back the ban also plan to rally.
