Back about 5 or 6 years ago the Alberta Research Council started this paper from wheat straw bullshit. There was a lot of noise about it at first but like ethanol or biodiesel it would only have worked if the government had matched each truckload of wheat-straw with a truck full of tax-dollars. It is something Prentice will likely revive because he can maybe buy some farm and cropper votes in Wild Rose ridings.
Well...I hope there are no grain awns in the toilet paper or customer service will be hearing about it. :)
They are getting 80-90 dollars per tonne for the baled up straw...and the value of that straw for fertilizer (and the organic matter) would be what? My guess is the 80-90 dollars they are receiving for a net gain of "0" for agriculture.
