If you mention to the average person that government is harvesting information via the smart meter all you get is **BLINK*....but...but...if you do laundry and run the dishwasher during the night the rate is cheaper. I've long felt the "end game" of the smart meter installation for everybody is to deliver a system of rationing. A good way to keep the sheep in line if there is no power, eh?
Don't forget that the smart meter can talk to and control via a chip in Energy Star appliances and tell them when to come on or stay off. All that is needed is some sort of crisis...probably weather related....for a trial run on rolling blackouts and on how the sheep will behave.
I think ontario sheep will behave just fine they will be down to 12 hour of power a day and they will be saying oh it could be a lot worse we're pretty lucky here
