Then there are the mounting calls from medical specialists who are urging the lockdowns to be lifted on the basis that they’re now doing more harm than good. That is no doubt influencing people’s thinking. Postponed surgeries, rising alcoholism, deaths of despair – these are all rising even as the COVID-19 cases decline. Some people have likely decided that they just can’t take it anymore and are willing to roll the dice and risk getting the virus.
