RARE FIND! AN ONTARIO MAYOR WITH BRAINS AND GUTS

Congratulations Mayor April Jeffs...

(From The Niagara Falls Review)
April Jeffs is ticked off at rising electricity rates. The Wainfleet mayor asked fellow regional councillors Thursday night to support her motion  to send a letter to Premier Kathleen Wynne asking her to “take immediate action” to prevent rate hikes forecast to rise 42% over the next five years. “I’m presenting this motion … more as a resident and small business owner...With small to medium enterprises being the backbone of the province and comprising a large portion of Niagara businesses, it’s absolutely crucial that these rate increases stop.”

...you're braver than your 443 fellow mayors - who post messages of concern but take no concrete action.

  1. I'll bet you Mayor Jeffs just got kicked out of the Don't-Rock-The-Boat-Club. That's what happens. All the municipal politicians know their provincial and federal counterparts and there's just this unwritten understanding that "we're all a bunch of fine folks, so why stir the pot?"

Municipal politicians used to understand that they were the real power-brokers. A vocal mayor or reeve could make or break an MP or an MPP.

But now they're just like a pack of hounds, clamouring and clawing to get the first sniff of the MPP's arse to beg for grants and other funding.

    1. That's exactly what has happened here in Peterborough. Our Liberal fartsucker Jeff Teal was on local council before he became MPP. You should see it, make you puke. Even the so-called conservatives on council can't bring themselves to speak out against the rotten government he is a part of. I guess being an old buddy means your responsibility to your citizens takes the back seat.

      I think another

  2. Sorry, bottom part got cut off.

I think another thing that makes the councillors yellow is that they imagine themselves being in the MPP's place, and that makes there butts shrink tight.

  3. Yes siree. Around here it's called the "He's not a bad fellow" club.

Can't get anyone on the local council to stand up at a public meeting where the press is present and tear a strip off our Liberal MPP for the harm he and his crew are doing to the province.

  4. It's all about money...the province holds the purse strings on a lot of the funding for municipalities. Most municipalities can't get their own spending under control and must ass kiss for upper tier funding. That is why the local mpp no matter how big an asshole he is, or how incompetent his party's government always has a line up ready to kiss his arse.

They might be more successful at getting some of our money back if they said, "Tell you what Mr. MPP, you and your buddies quit dinking around - cut that cheque - or I'm going to the local press and saying that you-re turning your back on your voters."

But that would take guts and brains.
