PETISHUN: OLD HURON WORD MEANING....

..."heap big list of people who won't fight for land".

  1. But I don't see what all the fuss is about, After all, the recent results from the Midhurst polls show that a majority of the residents wanted Liberal, NDP, or Green in June 2014 (1077 to 895).

So you just know they'd be okay with it if the development was happening in someone else's backyard.

    1. Midhurst Ratepayers Association. Hmmmmm. Yup, I betcha they're really concerned about individual property rights. They all tossed and turned for nights on end worrying about McGuinty's thieves confiscating our lands by legislation and regulation. I'm sure Atwood will be writing an anguished novel about it someday. Yeah, right....

    2. I think you're probably right. I did a bit of digging. When you click on "ABOUT" on the MRA site ( https://ilovemidhurst.wordpress.com/about/ ) you get this:

"...Stewart was: a co-founder of the local Georgian-Lakelands Chapter of Landscape Ontario, a member of the environment committee of the Greater Barrie Chamber of Commerce, a director of the Professional Lawn Care Operators of Ontario, and on the board of Be Green Barrie.,,"

    3. When she does write the book, you know it won't be the OLP as the bad guys. It will somehow be the fault of those evil Americans she loves to loathe.

  2. About 5 or 6 years ago there was a big landowner protest up in that area because the government had released some kind of bird to nest onto farms without the farmers knowledge and then protected the nesting sites and told the farmers they couldn't use the land anymore. I wonder if old Margaret would have ran over and protected their lands from that kind of development? ;)

  3. You know, all the enviro-parasites and their useful idiots enthusiastically applauded the parts of the Provincial Policy Statement and like legislation that "protected" (read: confiscated) certain features on private lands.

Now some would say that my bitter satisfaction at seeing my tormentors getting a taste of the same lash that flails me is very un-Christain. Au contraire! I truly appreciate them trying to lessen my pain by sharing the burdens of my discomfort! ;)

  4. A group is opposing development of wetlands and farmlands and you people are opposed to that? They are PROTECTING your property rights. Can you not read?

    1. Nay msapologistic. It is ye who canna read, nor think! How do you think the developers acquired the land? They purchased it from a willing seller who was no doubt paid a fair dollar because the opportunity existed to achieve the land's highest and best use. Any intervention to confound this free-market exchange by an interfering community collective and/or confiscatory government will steal opportunity and wealth away from the rightful owners. That is the obverse of individual property rights.
Sigh. I fear you will never get it. It's hard to fix stupid.

  5. "This fight is about ensuring that people of a community have a right to be heard by their government, that they have a right to choose to preserve their natural resources and farms and that even when faced against formidable opposition, small voices can be turned into thunderous roars."

Hm, guess they've never heard of the Canadian Landowner Alliance. Maybe they will actually look up "property right". Wonder if they'll deign to lower themselves into asking for CLA help.

I'm curious as to why it's ok to fully develop these particular wetlands, but certain areas of SDG are off limits from basic use by the property owner.
