His (Shawn Atleo) resignation is a symptom of a deep and serious problem: the inherent dysfunction of the AFN itself. It is broken; its structure, modelled after the UN General Assembly, renders it irrelevant.

Yup. The piggery and corruption of the chiefs isn't going to end until ordinary Indians do something about it. But, as it is in the province of Ontario, so shall it be on the reservations - an electorate that obviously is content with the status quo: total rot by increments.
ReplyDeleteJeepers. I'm really surprised that the AFN didn't use the much lauded "Iroquois Confederacy" model of governance. You know, the successful one that the story-tellers tell us was used by Jefferson and Franklin when the were setting up the US of A. ;)
ReplyDeleteWhy would the 600 plus chiefs want their people to get an education and gain some independence.The cheifs' own power and wealth comes from maintaining the status quo. Wouldn't want to jeopardize the money flow by getting a few natives off the reserves.
