I remember reading a piece in the National Post years ago when the Bush administration was praising Blair as a man of principle and courage. The author (I wish I could remember who it was) tore those claims apart with an expose of Blair's history of back-stabbing, suckholing, cowardice and obsession for power. In short, Blair was just a British version of Dalton McGuinty - a true testament to the everlasting stupidity of voters.
When you read the article it doesn't take long to figure out why Blair is so all of a sudden semi-outspoken. Vested self-interest.
